Argument:
Life had a meaning.

Opening statement.
I Wealtheow like to argue that life has a meaning everything is planned, existence is meaningful, and the past is important. Everything matters.
I sacrificed myself to Hrthrogar and my life for my country. I wouldn’t have done this if I didn’t love my country. I wouldn’t have sacrificed myself and my life if I hadn’t care about my people. I care for their lives and I think that everyone’s life has a meaning to it. This is why I did this. Life has a meaning. I wouldn’t have sacrificed myself if life hadn’t had a meaning. I wanted the best for my country I didn’t want them to die and get tortured. Why? Because I know as a human we do not want to die nor do we want to be tortured to death. Because we have a meaning to life, we struggle to live. Why do you not want to die if life doesn’t have a meaning?
How can our past be irrelevant? Have you not had memories where you can look back and cherish? Well wake up. These happened in the past, for it were memories. If the past is irrelevant, than do you wake up every morning forgetting about yesterday? If we had made a promise just a day ago, it is considered the “past” I guess that means it won’t be in effect due to the past being irrelevant.

Again, we struggle to live because we are meant to live.

One:

page 101, Grendel states “O woe! O wretched violation of sense! I could see myself leaping from my high tree and running on all fours through the crowd to her, howling, whimpering throwing myself down…”

What I think :

“They said that of all the kings upon the earth he was the man most gracious and fair-minded, kindest to his people and keenest to win fame.” (213, Beowulf) The Shaper, too, reflects of the glorious days of the Danes, celebrating past victories with others. “He told how Scyld by the cunning of arms had rebuilt the old Danish kingdom form ashes…”

Wealtheow exists to make peace and maintain peace. Fighting in unacceptable

Even if Wealtheow is in a higher position, she still shows respect.

Letter Reflection

After reading the letter I got a better understanding of Beowulf and Grendel. I knew that Grendel had a negative point of view, that was a fact we all knew. What we didn't know was Beowulf was the "other dragon". Through John Gardner's letter, I understood that Beowulf and Dragon had a connection, something I couldn't make out while reading Grendel. With this letter will be difficult to help my position, Wealtheow, but I think this will help a lot of other positions.
